Fencing for cats in your garden or on the fence
- For a garden system, you need short fence posts (50-80 cm), a good conductor (fence wire) and a Gallagher fence device.
- For a system on a fence, you will need insulators, plus a good conductor and a fence energiser.
How does the fence system work?
The wire is run through the insulator (from A to B) and a second wire is run back (from B to A) through the same insulator. The wires must not touch each other. As soon as the cat's paws are on the fence, it makes contact with the earth wire (-). It then closes the circuit by touching the + wire with its head. This creates a startle effect, causing the cat to jump back and not enter your garden. You can also combine both systems should your garden contain both parts with and parts without a fence.
