Cat Fence Kits

Keeping cats out of your garden with electric fencing. Are (other people's) cats a nuisance? Would you like to protect your vegetable garden and rose beds, or prevent cats from defecating in your garden? Then an electric fence will provide an effective and safe solution for both humans and animals.

Electric fences designed for pets, including cats, are entirely safe and specifically crafted to provide a short, gentle pulse. Unlike traditional fencing, these electric fences deliver a very brief voltage pulse that runs along an animal’s skin rather than penetrating through their body, causing only a mild startle response. This "fright response" naturally teaches the animal to avoid the boundary without causing any harm, making electric fences a humane solution for keeping cats out of specific areas, such as gardens.

Electric Fence System to Keep Cats Out of Your Garden

An electric fence for your garden is a highly effective way to prevent cats from entering and disturbing flower beds, vegetables, or other outdoor spaces. Here’s what’s required and how the system works:

  • Garden Fence kit:
For a system within a garden area, short fence posts (typically 75 cm in height) are ideal. Pair these with a high-quality conductor like Gallagher’s Vidoflex 6 wire, which effectively carries the pulse, and connect it to a reliable Gallagher fence energiser. This setup creates a low, unobtrusive barrier that is both functional and visually discreet.

  • Installing on an Existing Garden Fence:
If you prefer to secure your garden fence itself, you’ll need insulators in addition to a conductor and energiser. In this setup, the wire is threaded through an insulator that maintains two separate wires—a ground wire and a live wire—on the fence posts. One wire runs from point A to point B, while the second wire runs back from point B to point A, carefully held apart to prevent them from touching.

Here’s how it works: when the cat places its paws on the fence, it makes contact with the ground wire and, simultaneously, with the live wire by nudging its head against it. This completes the circuit, causing a brief shock that prompts a startle response. The cat instinctively backs away and learns to avoid the fenced area, associating it with a mild but effective deterrent.

Why Use an Electric Fence for Cats?

Electric fences for cats are particularly useful for protecting sensitive garden areas or preventing unwanted visits to flower beds or vegetable patches. The system is a great alternative to traditional barriers, blending seamlessly with outdoor spaces without obstructing the view or requiring large, bulky fencing structures. This humane method is safe for pets, wildlife, and family members, providing peace of mind and effective boundary control.

Gallagher’s electric fence solutions are designed with ease of use, safety, and animal welfare in mind, offering a long-lasting solution for any pet containment need in your garden.
