Virtual fencing is coming

A virtual shepherd for every cow

Track, manage, and move animals with the touch of a button. Anytime, anywhere. The virtual fencing app gives you 24/7 visibility and control over the whereabouts and health of your animals, connecting farmers to their herds like never before.

What is Virtual fencing?

Virtual Fencing is a solar powered, GPS-enabled neckband. It connects with web and mobile applications that enable farmers to fence, move and monitor their livestock remotely from the convenience of their phone or laptops. Farmers can draw a virtual fence anywhere on their property and their cattle are trained to remain within that virtual barrier.

At its core, the virtual fencing system is a virtual pasture and animal management tool that has the potential to solve some of the most significant problems cattle producers face. It offers benefits to farmers’ lifestyles, the natural environments which they farm, and the bottom line of their farming operations.

How does it work?

A virtual fence is created in the software and sent to the animal’s neckbands via the cloud. Animals wearing the neckband are trained to recognise and stay within virtual boundaries defined by farmers. When an animal approaches the virtual fence, the neckband emits an audio cue. If the animal ignores the cue and continues towards the virtual fence, the neckband delivers an aversive but harmless pulse. Virtula fencing cues are automated, predictable and avoidable; animals quickly learn to alter their behaviour and respond to an audio cue alone.

1. Neckband
The neckbands on each animal sends data and their coordinates to GPS satellites.

2. GPS positioning
The whereabouts of each animal are logged on a GPS.

3. Base station
Animals’ data is sent to a base station that is installed on a farm. This base station acts as an intermediary between the eShepherd Neckbands and the app from which farmers can control their animals.

4. Cloud database
The data gathered by the Base Station is sent to a Cloud Database. Algorithms then process this data into actionable insights for farmers.

5. Virtual fencing app
Farmers can virtually manage their pastures and livestock from a convenient app.
